How to make a portrait slide in PowerPoint

PowerPoint allows you to create presentations with both portrait and landscape orientation slides. In order to specify the orientation of the slides in the presentation, open the “Design” tab, click the “Slide Orientation” button, and select “Portrait” or “Landscape”.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to make it so that in the same presentation there are slides with both portrait and landscape orientation. There are several workarounds for this problem. For example, you can put a picture in portrait orientation on a landscape-style slide. In this case, the slide will look like a book.

There is another, more elegant way to solve this problem. The user can create two presentations with different orientation of the slides, and then link them.

  1. Create two presentations with different orientation of the slides and place them in the same folder so that when copying to a disk or USB flash drive, the links between the presentations are preserved.
  2. Open the first presentation and select the object or text that, when clicked, will switch to another presentation.
  3. Open the “Insert” tab and click on the “Action” button.PowerPoint Vertical Slide
  4. In the action settings window that appears, select the “Mouse Click” tab, check the “Hyperlink to: ” option and select the “Other PowerPoint Presentation” item in the menu that opens. PowerPoint Slide Orientation
  5. In the dialog box that opens, select the desired presentation with a different orientation of the slides and the desired slide.
  6. To return to the original presentation, follow the same steps for the slide from the second presentation.

There may be other ways around this problem. It is possible that Microsoft will someday create an opportunity to create slides with different orientations in the same presentation.
