Disk usage analyzer

Every PC user ever faces the problem of not having enough free space on the computer's hard drive. There are many programs for cleaning the disk from temporary files, duplicates and other garbage. But this does not eliminate the need to manually disassemble the huge number of files that have accumulated on your PC. In order to have a visual picture of the location of files and folders, you can use Disk Usage Analyzer, which will perform analysis of disk space. This program will scan the hard disk and give a visual report in the form of a tree-like structure of folders and files in them, indicating the size of each file and each folder. The data analyzer will help to put things in order in the folders located on the hard disk: group the disparate files into separate folders, find the largest files and move them, if necessary, to an external medium and so on.

Analyzer of data on the hard disk

Among the huge number of folders on the hard disk, you can select a group of folders, which is everywhere where the operating system Windows is installed. These are personal and service folders. They are part of the Windows operating system and are created when it is installed. Service folders allow the user access to Windows settings and resources. An example of such a folder is the folder "Control Panel". Personal folders, based on the name, store individual user information and this information is available only to the user. Examples of such folders are My Documents, My Music, My Pictures. The names of these folders may vary slightly depending on the type of operating system. Programs that are running on a PC retain the default documents in these folders.

The My Documents folder is intended for storing any documents created by the user. It includes three more folders: My drawings, My music, My videos. The first store any images of the user, the second - audio files, in the third - video records. It's easy to guess that if a user always saves files in these folders, offered by default programs, very soon their size becomes quite large. The problem is that initially the My Documents folder is located on the system disk, the volume of which is small compared to other disks. If there is little meta left on the system drive, the computer starts to slow down, or even stops functioning normally. A simple solution to this problem is to move the My Documents folder from the system disk to another PC drive. Depending on the operating system, the ways to move the My Documents folder are different.

In Windows 7, the My Documents folder is very easy to navigate. You need to open the "Start" button and click on the name of the current user, after which a list of all service folders will appear. Then, right-click the My Documents folder and select Properties. Next, go to the "Location" tab, click on the "Move" button and specify a new location where the My Documents folder will be located. Subsequently, you can return everything as it was, simply by clicking the "Default" button.
